"What is a Sensory-Friendly Food Blog?

Many people with autism or other developmental disabilities have sensory issues.  I’m one of those people.  You don’t have to be on the spectrum to deal with sensory overload.  Everyone takes in and processes information in a unique way.

I can’t visit a typical food blog for more than 10-20 seconds before the pop-up ads, ads with motion, and videos that automatically start, begin to overwhelm me.  The ads in between every paragraph, while probably great for the food blogger, breakup the flow of what I’m trying to read, and make it hard to focus.

Please don’t think I’m bashing those sites, because I’m absolutely not.  They contain great recipes that I’ve made and that I’ve tweaked into my version.  Because of the way my brain is wired and the way I take in and process visual stimulation, I have to be stealth on a visit to most food blogs.  I hit “jump to recipe”, quickly read it, and then print it if it catches my attention.

Sensory-friendly encompasses more than what we see.  Taste and texture are two senses that can control how we eat.  We’ll dive into food sensitivities and find ingredients we can use to replace sensitive ingredients.

Enjoy your visit and thanks for stopping by.

“Absolutely. Call them picky, fussy, or choosy, but this type of diner doesn’t WANT to eat familiar foods or try new foods. Someone with a food sensitivity CANT eat something, whether due to texture, taste, or smell. For more on this, please see Sensitivities at the top of the page, or CLICK HERE.”
